  • His best yet

    By Bridgey
Saw Mr Marr supporting The Who in Hyde Park a couple of years ago, and loved him! He sounds great live, and so I was looking forward to hearing this, his third studio album. His first two albums had some great tunes on, but also a few I tended to skip over. Definitely not the case with ‘Call The Comet’ - I’ve had this on repeat in the car for weeks. It’s a really solid album and gets better with each listen. Definitely his strongest album to date and not a duff track on there! ‘Hi Hello’, ‘Walk Into The Sea’, and ‘The Tracers’ being the standout tracks, but there’s so much more to enjoy. Can’t wait to see him on his UK tour - tickets already booked!

This is fantastic. We all know what a great songwriter JM is but some of the tracks on here have reached an even higher level. Gotta say “Walk Into the Sea and Actor Attractor are awesome tracks.

Great album, all three studio albums have been great but I think this one is his best. Some really catchy tunes but with added variety with the influences of the soundtrack work he has done recently. This adds another dimension to his work and proves he never stands still or makes music by numbers. Having a career of working with other bands has kept his mind fresh also.
  • Sounds from the past

Many people is mentioning how much guitar sounds from The Smiths times are in this album. I think it is true and I quite like it. He was the creator of an specific sound that nobody else has. Good for Marr to bring those sounds back. They are part of him and I am very glad to hear them again. Lovely album!!

Fabulous! A talent that is very much under appreciated! Should receive the same acclaim as his old sparring partner Mozza - or more!! Takes me back to the good old days of listening to The Smiths! Def one to listen to in seclusion with the ear phones in like the teenage years!! Very much worth downloading!
  • The Marr the Merrier

His debut blew me away then came Playland which did not disappoint and now Call The Comet. Marr just doesn't fail to keep it fresh but is unmistakingly his own sound. He should have sang a long time ago. An excellent third album. "Walk Into The Sea", "Hi Hello" are my highlights along with the New Gold Dream era sound of Simple Minds on "Spiral Cities"

For anyone stumbling across these reviews please take the time to download this utterly brilliant album. Modern, fresh but also feels familiar. Such brilliant songwriting with an amazing space rock atmosphere throughout. Johnny Marr at his finest. 10/10
